What a show!! Summer 2009

07. júlí 2009 klukkan 21:43

Well, what a show this weekend!! Not only did Svartskeggs Eva Maria knock my socks off by winning her class, with BOB and CAC, you could have knocked me over with a feather when she got BIG 4!!! Here is a picture of the proud beauty:

That was not enough though! Gullgaefu Frida Feykirofa also won BOB and CAC at the show:

And to top it all, African Sauda, Afrika and Svali's puppy won BOB and CAC too!! I came home with three trophy's and three rosettes and the biggest smile on my face all year! Now we have to look forward to two anniversary shows in august. It will be one weekend, but classed as two shows and all the dogs get shown twice. This is new to us here as normally we only get three shows per year and thats it. Two of them classed as international shows and one as the icelandic one.

I know I haven't kept this blog up lately, but times have been hard here in Iceland, with the economic collapse and all. Hopefully we can look forward to happier times in the nearest future.....

The puppies are born!!

13. nóvember 2008 klukkan 10:44

Yes, yesterday morning, or tuesday the 12th of November Chiquita (Svartskeggs Cheerios) gave birth to her puppies. All things considered, she is and was a total hero. The first puppy was born at 6:40 a.m. after what felt like a looonngg pushing period. It was a black dog, weighing in at 210 grams. I have given him the name "Tröllatrúar Champion Forerunner". Then the next dog was born at 7:05 a.m weighing in at 223 grams, he is pepper and salt and got the name "Tröllatrúar Chili Charmer". The next puppy was a bitch of the pepper and salt variety, but sadly the placenta disrupted too early, resulting in her death before she was born. Chiquita bled quite a bit and had me worried there for a while. As I was warming the car to take her and the puppies to the vets, another healthy bitch was born, at 9:55 a.m. She weighed in at 206 grams, is black and we named her "Tröllatrúar Celebration Queen". Needless to say, everything was fine after that and after a long telephone discussion with the vet, a trip to see her was needless.

Chiquita is doing really well. Has a good appetite, is a champion mother and the milk started flowing immediatly. All the puppies have gained weight their first day in this world and are all doing really well. Champ has gained 33 grams, Chili 24 grams and "Celena" 35 grams. We are all thrilled about the new additions to the family, but also really saddened by the loss of the salt and pepper bitch. We had been hoping for such a bitch to retain and keep ourselves this time around. Losing her was a real blow and extremely dissapointing. She is sorely missed.

Decisions have not been made yet, regarding the puppies future or their names. Obviously we cannot keep them all, but are going to give ourselves time to decide whether we will keep one of them or not. Time will only tell......;o)

We have puppies on the way!!

26. október 2008 klukkan 00:03

Yes, Chiquita is well and truly pregnant!! We took the opportunity to mate her with an Icelandic and Slovenian champion, who was on loan here in Iceland for a while. His name is "Denethor King of Dolina Rivendell" aka "Dennis the Menace". He is of the pepper and salt variety, and I must say a beautiful dog with a lovely temperament. We are expecting the puppies around the 8th of November. So keep tabs if you are interested, I will be more active in updating this site. The pedigree of the the unborn puppies is availble here to the right, also.

For now Chiquita is doing well, she is getting large, but still manages to jump up everywhere she wants to go. In the picture above she is dressed in her jumpsuit, as she had just been shaven and felt a little cold. Here below is another picture of the clan out for walkies:

Fríða Feykirófa is there somewhere too. Here is another picture of her and Africa:

Don't forget to sign the guestbook - more later.

Fríða Feykirófa

We have a new addition to the family! A Griffon Belge puppy that we have named Fríða Feykirófa, meaning Frida (beautiful) Thundertail. She is so beautiful and the spitting image of her mother. We are happy as can be, but never dreamt we would be adding another dog to the family so soon after Svali has left us. She just managed to melt our hearts in a big way, and we decided to jump at the chance to be her new family.

As far as I know, Svali is doing really well in England. He was in 2nd place a few weeks ago at a dog show there, and we hope he goes on to do more and even better things in good time.

African Sauda was here last weekend, to be stripped down and groomed, in good time for the next International Dogshow here in Iceland in September. She is almost exactly like Svali, the spitting image of him, all the way down to her mannerisms and the way she breaths.

As it is really late right now, I am going to bed. More later.......

News update

06. apríl 2008 klukkan 13:16
I have been so busy lately, I have not had time to put in an update at all. So now I am "stealing" a few minutes to do so, as things are happening quite quickly these days.

Svali won BOB at the last International show, got a CACIB and was deemed a worthy champion. African Sauda was best puppy and also did very well too. I was very proud that day.

Now, Svali's hip and elbow x-ray results finally came back this week. Almost a year has passed since I took him for the x-rays, and they have been sent  a total of 4 times to Norway to be analysed. His hips got the rating "B", dysplasia free, and his elbows "A" and dysplasia free. So now he has the full package and a clean bill of health, as we have had additional tests done lately, both to check his sperm and also to rule out any other illnesses.

Afrika is on heat right now, and we are hoping to be successful in mating her to Svali, and that we will have puppies born this summer. This is our last chance for puppies from them two, because Svali will be leaving us to go to England in June.

Chiquita is on heat too, right now, and is very seductive to Svali, making the whole situation very confusing and difficult here. So, now she has been banished to one of the bedrooms. No chances are to be taken here, that is for sure.

Take care and wish us luck ;o)

All good things happen in time.........

Sauda Best Puppy

It is a long time since I came with a news update here, all the puppies have new homes and owners and it is high time I stopped advertising them, as no one is left anymore. (A few weeks have passed since the last one was promised) I am confident that they all got good homes and owners and hope that all their futures will be bright and happy ones.

The picture above is of African Sauda at the last speciality show here in Iceland. She did really well and won the title Best Puppy! I could not have been more proud of her and look forward to seeing her at the next International show, in Reykjavik on 2nd and 3rd March. The plan is to show Svali then too, so I am hoping for a good show.

Svali's International Champion certificate arrived in the mail today. Also, today I received confirmation that the kennel name I applied for, "Tröllatrúar" has been approved too. So now I can apply for the puppies pedigree's with a kennel name intact. Happy days!

I would like to introduce Svartskeggs Eva María as a new addition to the family. She is a black and silver Miniature Schnauzer and beautiful one too. We are very happy with her and hope that she will do well in the future at the shows and more importantly be happy living with us.Svartskeggs Eva María

Hvolparnir eru undan SUCH Gloris Super Lamigras Man "Texas" og Svartskeggs Cheerios "Chiquita". Ég hef sótt um ræktunarnafnið: "Tröllatrúar", en er ekki enn búin að fá staðfestingu hvort það fáist samþykkt.

Hvolparnir afhendast heilsufarsskoðaðir, ormahreinsaðir, bólusettir, örmerktir, snyrtir og með ættbók hjá Hundaræktarfélagi Íslands. Þeim fylgir líf og sjúkdómatrygging í eitt ár hjá VÍS Agría, snyrting á stofu um 4ra mánaða aldurinn og búið verður að fara með þau öll í svokallað PAT próf.

Um er að ræða hvolpaskapgerðarmat, til að aðstoða tilvonandi eigendur við að finna hund við sitt hæfi, hafa einhverja hugmynd um skapgerð hvolpsins, og geta þar með gert sér hugmyndir að því hvað gott er að leggja áherslur á í þjálfun og uppeldi. Þetta próf er mjög athyglisvert og fræðandi.

The puppies are sired by SUCH Gloris Super Lamigras Man "Texas" and the dame is Svartskeggs Cheerios "Chiquita". I have applied for the kennel name "Tröllatrúar", but have not yet received confirmation on it from the FCI club here in Iceland.

The puppies will undergo healthchecks, be de-wormed and innoculated, microchipped,
groomed, and have a pedigree recognised by the FCI worldwide. If purchased here in Iceland, they will be insured both for illness and lifeinsurance for the first year. Also included will be the first visit to a doggroomer at the age of four months. All the puppies will undergo a PAT test, specifically the Volhardt Puppy Aptitude Test that will give their future owners invaluable information on their puppy's temperament and good ideas for their potential with regards to training and upbringing.

Merry Christmas

Chiquita and her puppiesAfrika and Chiquita

Merry christmas everybody and a happy new year to you all.
Here are two pictures of our dogs since today. Chiquita is first with her puppies in the litter box. The second is in front of our christmas tree, of both Chiquita and Afrika. They had a good day today, with lots of goodies and love. Svali is staying with friends these days, because of the puppies. We take it very seriously at my house, in minimizing the risk of infection for the puppies. Confinement is not for Svali, as he needs his excersize and freedom to run. So, for now he stays with a well trusted friend who takes him for his runs every day.

It looks like his stay will be extended a bit, as I am pretty sure Afrika is pregnant too. She is showing all the signs, so now we are expecting Giant Schnauzer puppies in the last week of January. Just before Chiquita's puppies will hopefully be going to their new homes.

This will be our last litter of Giants, as Svali will most probably be going to England in June. His preparations are already underway and he will be going to respected breeders over there. We are very happy for him, because this means he is not about to retire any time soon. His INTCH is coming through and he already has his ISCH title. We just hope that he manages to qualify for Crufts in 2009, but time will only tell....

Yes, these are exciting times here in Iceland. We have had a successful year, with a few bumps along the way, but we have learned from all of them. Overall we are happy and content and delighted with our dogs and their company.

We have more exciting news to come, but will only reveal it as things progress. But for now I will let you in on a little secret. I have applied for a "Kennel name". I hope it will get the FCI stamp of approval but I applied for the name: "Tröllatrúar" or "Trollatruar", which means the faith of trolls or massive faith. In Icelandic it seems appropriate to the characteristics of Schnauzers, they have massive personalities and confidence to boot, even if they are in small packages as the miniatures are. In Icelandic it is also a positive name. So I hope we get approval for this name.

The puppies are all doing well. They have opened their eyes and are standing up and exploring the litter box. Soon I will be introducing toys, textures and sounds to them. Interacting with them every chance I get and keeping up a regimen of getting them used to as much as I can while they are here with us. The fun is just about to begin over here.

Happy holidays and take care of yourselves.

Grandchildren in the snow......

06. desember 2007 klukkan 19:50
Here is a picture I received today, of African Sauda, out playing in the snow. To me, she is absolutely gorgeous, but I am biased, I'm her breeder. (In my mind that means I am her grandmother) But isn't she just beautiful? For a puppy of 4-5 months age I feel she is a really well built dog. Time will only tell because in January there will be a speciality show for Schnauzers here in Iceland, and I hope to see this beauty in the ring then. Happy days

A small update...

Belize suckling her momPuppies

Just a few photo's of the pups, even though there is not yet much to see. But the one above is of Belize suckling her mother, she is doing well. So far she has gained 12 grams on top of her birthweight. It may not be much compared to her siblings, but she is edging upwards, not down, so we have high hopes she will make it. But time will only tell.

The lower photo is of all the puppies together, most of them sleeping happily. They are really doing well and Chiquita is a good mom.

More later, I have to try and sleep a little in between watching over them.
